A Great Green Car
To understand the Camry Hybrid's position in its segment, you need only realize that both the Ford Fusion and Nissan Altima's powertains are based on Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive (Nissan actually licenses the technology, Ford's setup is independently developed but essentially identical). If that's not enough, remember that the Toyota Camry has been the best selling car in America for eleven of the last twelve years. Clearly, the Camry is the car Nissan and Ford designers had at the center of their sights.
The Camry Hybrids keeps a low profile. Subtle badging (and green metallic paint in the case of our test car) are the only signs these new cars are hybrids, rather than a regular four-cylinder models. Simple touches like dual exhaust - ala Altima and Fusion - might create a more upscale appearance in keeping with the hybrid's place in the model range. A much different different option to the likes of the Rav 4
The hybrid Camry touches minimalistic inside. An easy to read, analog gauge to monitors fuel economy, but the rest of the interior is standard-fare Camry. That means a user-friendly layout and good quality materials.
The Camry with its powerful drivetrain is refined and plenty strong, and its pillow-soft suspension tuning gives it the most comfortable ride of the three. With all this power Toyota haven't forgotten about key features around car safety which includes steering control, SRS airbags to name to a few.
The Camry is full of car technology such as: Hybrid technology, reversing camera and keyless entry to name a few. Most notably in the Camry, the power transfer from gas to EV, when it happens, is so smooth that it's nearly imperceptible.
The Camry Hybrid is still comfortable, efficient, and pleasant behind the wheel. Most importantly, the Hybrid Camry price represents the value you have come to expect from the Toyota Camry range.
While reviewing the Camry Hybrid there was also an opportunity to reviwe the new Toyota FT-86. Although designed as a fast and sleek sport car we hope that a hybrid drivers will be given an opportunity to select this type of styling for their hybrid selection some time in the future.
